Nursing, The Philippines Iloilo

I chose Work the World because I liked the sound of both the programme and the available locations. I read some statements and case studies from other students which were all positive - everyone said what a great time they had, which was really useful.

Assistance before the trip was great. I got help and advice whenever I needed and was able to contact the Work the World office at all times.

The arrival in Iloilo and orientation process was really thorough. Everything was explained to us and we were given a good tour of the house and the city, which made me feel more comfortable and knowledgeable in my new surroundings.

Tester, EmilyThe WTW house and staff were amazing! The trip wouldn’t have been the same without them. Everyone in the house was so welcoming and kind, and really made me feel safe and at home. The house was clean, well looked after and the food was great!

My hospital experience was also great. The staff I met were really nice, they were all so chatty and really interested in getting to know you and make you feel welcome in their country. My hospital placement was obviously much different to what I’d experienced back at home, and as such was incredibly interesting and exciting to take part in.

On the topic of unique experiences; travelling for the first time – and what’s more, doing it on my own – has been a massive experience! It really was amazing, and organizing it with such a great company has really made it the best. I’ve seen and experienced such a variety of new things, both inside the hospital and out, and will no doubt cherish these memories for a long time.

Tester, EmilyThe travelling opportunities in Iloilo were incredible. With the help of the WTW staff they were made so easy and stress free; they really know the best places to explore so you definitely won’t miss anything!

Advice to future students: come here with an open mind! Your hospital experience will be different in so many ways to back home. Don’t judge, get involved with what you experience at the hospital and ask questions. Let your emotions out. If something has upset you, talk about it back at the house. Everyone will listen and understand; you’re never on your own here!

Although sometimes some things will be hard to see and understand, try and remain professional and respectful. There’s so much to learn here, so don’t turn down learning experiences. Smile and take each day as it comes. You really will have the time of your life in Iloilo, my home away from home.
