Edinburgh Napier University 2026
I was inspired to undertake an overseas placement by other students who recommended Work the World to me. Everything was so organised and easy to plan. The team were so helpful, and reassured me by answering any questions or worries I had.
The Work the World house in Hue was very spacious, but it doesn’t feel lonely - the rooms are very clean, and the pool is so lovely. It quickly feels like your home after you arrive. I have met some of my favourite people ever here in Vietnam, and I can’t even imagine going back to ‘normal’ without them.
All of the in-country team are so supportive and kind - you feel like you can talk to them about anything. I’ll miss them so much.
Some memorable moments from my placement include seeing surgeries I’d never have the chance to do at home. Also, having Ms. Ly, the best teacher ever, who made us love placement and taught us so much about how to interact with patients when you can’t speak the language.
During the evenings and weekends, my housemates and I would go on trips to different cities, including Hoi An, Da Nang - we also went for walks to get dessert, out for drinks, laundry and endless chats!
One thing that will stick with me forever is Thao’s quotes - Work the World's Assistant Programme Manager in Vietnam - she has been lovely and made me smile every day.
